Humorous Speech The subject for the humorous speech shall be selected by the contestant. Contestants must prepare their own five- to seven-minute speech, which must be substantially original, with any quoted material identified during the speech presentation. The speech must be thematic in nature (opening, body, and close), not a monologue (series of one-liners). Evaluation Contests At the beginning of this contest a five- to seven-minute test speech will be presented. At the conclusion of the test speech, all contestants shall leave the room. They then have five minutes to prepare their evaluation using materials of their choice. Following the preparation each contestant will be brought in to conduct a 2-3 minute evaluation of the test speech. These rules were exerted from the official rulebook, http://www.toastmasters.org/rulebook.aspx. The official judging guide and ballet set forth is http://www.toastmasters.org/sampleballot.aspx . There are eight categories totaling 100 points. Following is a summary from the sample ballot: Content (50 points total)
Delivery (30 points total)
Language (20 points total)
Your goal is to attain maximum points in as many categories as possible. Bon Air Toastmasters is hosting a club contest on August 26th at the 10am meeting at IIT Technical Institute. Guests are always welcome to attend. For more details: http://www.toastmasters.org/Members/MemberExperience/Contests.aspx
At their regular dinner meeting on June 1, 2010, the members of Bon Air Toastmasters elected a slate of officers to serve the Club for the period of July first through the end of December. We are pleased to announce our new leaders for the coming term:
Since Bon Air Toastmasters was founded in 2007, we have taken great pride in seeing our members grow and improve their speaking skills. We welcome the complete novice as much as we welcome the experienced speaker. We can all benefit from the Toastmasters educational programs!
Bon Air Toastmasters is welcome to all. We are an open/community club. Our focus is mostly on entrepreneurs and working professionals, but you'll find us a friendly bunch of folks to get to know. We have great fun in our meetings, but we stick to our agenda, too. We like to think of ourselves as the perfect balance between fun and a structured learning environment.
Come and join us this coming Thursday at 10 am!

We all need to communicate. The question is how comfortable we are when we do it and how effective we are at conveying our message.
